Sally's First Freestyle Dive !
Today was definitely a memorable day -- not because it was the last day of swim class for a couple of weeks, but because...
Sally got to jump off the diving board with nothing but herself and her swimsuit!
At first, the whole class jumped in with life jackets on (twice) but then it was time to end class. One of the kids asked if he could jump in without his life jacket, and the teacher said OK, so of course Sally wanted to do it too. The last 2 sessions, they were practicing jumping in with their noodles for flotation support.
But jumping in from the diving board was a compeltely different experience without any flotation support!
Sally absolutely LOVED it, and her teacher Meghan was there in the water, waiting for her. Meghan got quite a splash, since Sally practically did a belly flop into the pool.
Then she swam on her own to the side of the pool. Hooray!!! I got the whole thing on video on my phone (interesting -- I didn't even know my phone was capable of video until one of the other moms showed me. Cool!)
Sally was quite excited!
Sally will stay in "Guppy" level for 1 more session (starts after Thanksgiving) so she can work on swimming on her back before we move her up to Clownfish. Her teacher was very proud of her, and so are we! I know she will be a pro by the time our pool opens this summer.
Go Sally Go ! ! !
