April Showers Bring...Snowmen?

It's true - we had a crazy heavy snowstorm today and Daddy and Sally built a rather large snowman. It's still coming down pretty thickly -- I think we've had over a foot since this morning.

Perhaps Punxatawnee Phil was mistaken.

I swear, we were wearing shorts 2 days ago. Good thing I haven't packed away teh girls' winter clothing!

Our friends Jessica and Steve had a baby last Monday, and so did our friends Brian and Rhonda. Babies babies everywhere! and we just found out another couple we know is pregnant -- hooray!!

Sydney is getting over her cold. Last night we all slept for 5 hours straight, I think. (Another Hooray!)

Sydney's newest trick is to grab her toes. HAsn't yet figured out she can get them in her mouth...Still teething and chewing on everythign in sight. Sal is being good about keeping the small parts and toys away from Syd.

Sally's newest thing (besides walking around the house, singing Prince's "You Don't Have to Be Rich" (thank you Happy Feet) is answering pretty much any request with a heavy sigh, followed by "Fine." It's quite comical.

You never know what that kid will say. Today she said, "Mom, I'd like some warm apple juice please." Ummm, ok.

Hopefully our beloved sunshine will return tomorrow. If we go more than 2 days without sunshine, I go into withdrawals....

Sydney's First Cold :-(

Well, Sally made it until she nearly turned 1 before she got a cold, but Syd wasn't nearly as lucky.

After 3 days of progressively worse phlegm-y coughing (and we couldn't tell whether it had progressed to her chest) and extreme congestion, we finally took her to see the doctor.

Fortunatley, all is well. Unfortunately, there's nothing to do except let it run its course.

The poor dear is losing her voice (?) from all the coughing. Cute, but also kinda sad.

Her spirits are still up. And she'll still put anything she can reach into her mouth. Sally has been great about keeping things away from Syd.

More to come...

Weekend Explorers

On Friday, Sydney had her doctor's appointment -- all is well and here are her current "stats":

Everything looks great -- she is either on par or ahead of schedule with all her physical development milestones.

Height = 14 lbs 5 oz (50th percentile)
Weight = 25 1/4 (75th percentile)
Head = 17 1/4 (90th percentile) - (yes, she has daddy's head)

After her appt, we headed over to the Front Range Showcase. Bumped into some friends and made some new ones. Found a very nice chiropractor and an excellent massage therapist. Sally got to play at hte Discovery Toys booth (turned out to be our neighbors!)

In the spirit of our continued commitment to explore more of the area around us (outside of Castle Rock and the Park Meadows area), we decided to drive down to Colorado Springs. Yesterday we went down there for the Celebration metaphysical event, which was pretty snazzy. Sally got another new crystal (amethyst) and also a stone (lapis lazuli). We also picked up some CDs, one of which is designed specifically for indigo children, to increase focus. Also 1 for Andy (specifically to increase focus in A.D.D. personalities) and one for meditation and one for sleep enhancement. We found a nice place to have lunch (which was more like dinner by the time we got there) and did a little shopping in historic Colorado City before heading back home.

Today we played at the park for awhile and then went into Littleton and found a nice goofy golf place. Sally and I played together against daddy, and with only a 12 stroke handicap, we all tied!

Then we had lunch at another ho-hum Asian place (honestly, isn't there ANY good oriental food here besides Thai Basil???) and headed back home. The weather today was absolutely perfect -- if we had been at an outdoor festival, I'm sure we would have gotten sunburns. (well, tans at least)

Tomorrow Sally is off of school, so we're headed back to Colorado Springs to go to the Cheyenne Zoo. Believe it or not, it's probably teh same distance away as the Denver Zoo!

More to come...

Sydney's Dr's Appt

Sydney had her 4-month dr's appt today (about 2 weeks late, my fault -- things have been quite busy lately).

All is well:

Weight = 14 lbs 5 oz (50th percentile)
Height = 25 1/4 in (75th percentile)
Head circumference = 17 1/4 (90th percentile -- she's got daddy's head!)

Sydney is either on track or ahead of hte curve on all developmental milestones...tracking 180 degrees (apparently doc was quite impressed wtih that), putting her hands together, rolling over, starting to crawl, smiling, laughing, cooing, batting, grabbing, picking up things and putting them in her mouth, pushing up with her head and chest off hte floor, etc. Ah yes, good times.

The only thing that sucks is the teething. She's not too fussy, it's just that she wants to be around us all the time. Usually held or lying on one of us. She's quite hte little socialite.

Yesterday, I got so desperate, I put whisky on her gums. It didn't seem to help her teething pain, but she did smel like she'd been to a kiddie saloon, which was mildly amusing. So much for that bit of wisdom. I think we'll all be happier when she cuts that first tooth (plus that means I can stop breastfeeding, haha)

A little alcohol did make Andy and I feel better, however....

Too much at once = cranky baby

Our dearest Sydney is going through a tough spell.

I can imagine it would be tough to learn to roll over, cut a tooth, and have a growth spurt all at one time.

Our little multitasker. Well, I suppose we know who she takes after. As I write this now, I am uploaded a recording of tonight's teleclass and breastfeeding, all at the same time.

Fortunately, I've just hired an Executive Assistant to help me out with business stuff, so that's very exciting.

Yesterday, we interviewed a Nanny for our upcoming Australia trip.

Yessiree, lots of wonderful things afoot at the Grant household. Meanwhile, Sally has been a virtual SAINT these past few days. Could the terrible twos have ended? I think that only lasted about 7 months.

Yesterday Sydney was very fussy (see above) and Sally walked over to her and said "Syd, let's you and me have a little talk."

MILESTONE: Sydney Rolls Over!

Well, after a few days of frustration (not knowing what to do with that pesky arm), Sydney can finally roll over and back at will.

Hooray!!!

Still drooling like mad, we keep checking for the eruption of a tooth -- nothing visible or palpable yet

Dreaming of a White Easter?

Normally, a white Easter refers to darling white dresses and bonnets, and brand new white shoes.

Not in Castle Rock today.

It's snowing buckets -- it's quite insane.

This morning we woke early and brought Sally and Sydney downstairs to see all the loot from the Easter Bunny and our families.

My goodness! Somebody must have been a very good girl!

Sally's basket had crafts (rubber stamps, glitter glue sticks, sock puppet kit and make and bake suncatchers), games, a chocolate bunny, some little trinkets (crazy straw, toy car, bendy bunny, rubber duckies, etc.) and some eggs filled with jelly beans. Sydney's basket included a new rattle, new teether, gum massager, a tiny rubber ducky, and some feeding supplies (it won't be long before she's eating rice cereal and other interesting stuff).

Sally and Sydney got some adorable outfits from Grammy, Sally got a book and Sydney got an outfit from Nana and Poppy, and Papa Rich and Gigi sent a bunny Mr. Potatohead for Sally and a plush toy for Sydney. Mommy and Daddy gave Sally a new motorized Shrek toothbrush, new toothpaste, and special flosser sticks, and Sydney got a ton of clothes and new bibs.

There were even HUGE bunny tracks leading up to our front door! Sally noticed them right away, as she was coming downstairs.

Since the snow was coming down pretty hard, we figured we should get an early start to church. So we dressed up the girls in their new outfits from Grammy and we got dressed and loaded up into the car.

Unfrotunately, we never made it out of Castle Rock.

Since it's a holiday AND a Sunday, the roads weren't plowed -- even the Interstate wasn't plowed yet!

We barely made it up the hill to get onto the Interstate, so we decided we better not risk it. So we turned around and headed home. Sally was already crashing from her early morning sugar high, so we put her down for a nap (Syd was already asleep) and Mommy and Daddy cooked some blueberry/strawberry pancakes for a leisurely breakfast.

Oh well, at least we'll take some pix of hte girls in their adorable new outfits!

And we're working on updating the girls' websites today as well...
